Leader for Responsible Growth:

For 5+ years, Commissioner Johnston has been our consistent and sometimes sole voice on the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners for reasonable limits on growth & development.  He’s been the one we can count on to remain independent of the development special interests.  Now more than ever, we can’t afford to lose that voice.

Leader for Fiscal Responsibility:

Commissioner Johnston brought long-term financial planning to our county five years ago, to keep our taxes among the lowest in the state while increasing fire and police protection.

Accomplishments As Your Commissioner:

        Implemented long-term financial planning

Supported the Land Use Plan to manage growth

Commercial architecture standards and “big-box” restrictions

        Funding for Children’s Emergency Shelter

Funding for roads, new parks, public safety facilities,  drivers license facility, library expansion and doubling of book collection

        Expansion of fire staffing levels

Plans & Goals in the Next 4 Years:

Maintain and stick to a conservative land use plan

        Improve roads, especially Hwy 20

        Improve development standards

        Provide for affordable senior housing

Continue to improve Fire Service and ISO rating

Guard taxpayer funds; keep taxes low
